ACTIVE THREAT ADVISORY

Roblox Child Safety

Roblox has over 70 million daily users — the majority under age 13.

Educators across the country are reporting a dramatic increase in online predators targeting children through Roblox. Los Angeles County sued Roblox in 2026 for providing predators with "powerful tools" to target children. This page gives you the information and settings to protect your child tonight.

How Predators Use Roblox

Understanding the six-stage grooming process is the most important thing a parent can know. Predators follow a predictable pattern — and every stage can be interrupted.

7 Settings to Change Tonight

These settings take less than 10 minutes to configure and significantly reduce your child's exposure to unknown adults on Roblox.

1

Enable Parental Controls

DO FIRST

Go to Roblox Settings → Parental Controls. Link your parent account to your child's account. This gives you full visibility and control.

2

Set Account Restrictions ON

DO FIRST

Under Parental Controls → Account Restrictions, toggle ON. This limits your child to a curated list of age-appropriate games and disables all chat with strangers.

3

Disable Direct Messages from Strangers

DO FIRST

Go to Privacy Settings → Who can message me? → Set to 'Friends' only. This prevents any unknown adult from initiating contact.

4

Set Who Can Follow Your Child

Privacy Settings → Who can follow me to my games? → Set to 'No one' or 'Friends'. Predators use this feature to track which servers a child is in.

5

Disable Trading and Gifts

Under Settings → Privacy → Who can trade with me? → Set to 'No one'. Robux gifts and trades are a primary grooming tool — predators use them to build trust.

6

Turn On Spending Notifications

Enable email alerts for any Robux purchases. Unexplained spending is often the first sign a child is being manipulated or has given account access to a predator.

7

Review Friend List Monthly

Ask your child to show you their Roblox friend list. Any adult username, any account with no profile photo, or any 'friend' your child cannot identify in real life is a red flag.

Warning Signs to Watch For

Two categories of warning signs — what to watch for on the platform, and what to watch for in your child's behavior.

On the Platform

  • An adult stranger sends your child a friend request or gift
  • Your child receives Robux from someone they do not know in real life
  • A player asks your child to join a private server away from their friends
  • Someone asks your child to move the conversation to Discord, Snapchat, or text
  • A player asks personal questions: school name, home address, what you look like
  • Your child is asked to keep a friendship or conversation secret from you
  • Someone offers to 'help' your child get rare items, game passes, or premium status

In Your Child's Behavior

  • Your child becomes secretive or closes the screen when you walk by
  • They are online at unusual hours or refuse to stop playing when asked
  • They receive gifts, game currency, or items from unknown sources
  • They seem emotionally attached to an online friend you have never heard of
  • They become anxious, withdrawn, or upset when they cannot access Roblox
  • They use language or reference topics that seem beyond their age
  • They mention a new 'friend' who is older or who they have never met in person

The Conversation to Have Tonight

Research consistently shows that children who have been told what grooming looks like are significantly less likely to be victimized. This is not a scary conversation — it is an empowering one.

Tell Them the Rules

  • Never share your real name, school, or address in any game
  • Never accept gifts or Robux from someone you don't know in real life
  • Never move a conversation off Roblox to another app
  • If anyone makes you uncomfortable, you can always tell me — no matter what

Tell Them What Grooming Looks Like

  • Adults who want to be your 'special friend' in a game
  • Someone who gives you gifts and asks for nothing in return — at first
  • Anyone who asks you to keep your friendship a secret from your parents
  • Someone who asks to talk on a different app 'just between you two'

Tell Them What to Do

  • Stop responding immediately — do not say goodbye
  • Take a screenshot of the conversation
  • Tell a trusted adult right away
  • You will NOT be in trouble — the adult is the one who did something wrong

If Your Child Has Been Contacted

Do not panic. Do not delete anything. Follow these steps in order.

1

Stay calm

Your child needs to know they are not in trouble. Your reaction determines whether they tell you everything or shut down.

2

Screenshot everything

Do not delete messages. Screenshot all conversations, usernames, and any images sent. This is evidence.

3

Report on Roblox

Click the offending user's profile → Report Abuse. Select the appropriate category. Roblox is legally required to report CSAM to NCMEC.

4

Report to NCMEC

File a report at CyberTipline.org or call 1-800-843-5678. NCMEC routes reports directly to the FBI and local law enforcement.

5

Contact the FBI

File a tip at tips.fbi.gov. Online predator cases are federal crimes. Your report may connect to an active investigation.

6
